Edmonton Lesbian+ Book Club

Not very springy yet around here, is it? Oh well, at least we have books to keep us warm. February's title is Nicole Dennis-Benn's Here Comes the Sun . In March, we're reading Julia Serano 's Excluded . In April, we'll try Calling Dr. Laura , a novel by Nicole J. Georges about a young woman finding out some deep family secrets. May it's Corona by Bushra Rehman - a super interesting read about a Pakistani Muslim woman in Queens, NY. June let's read the first of C.B. Lee's Sidekick series, Not Your Sidekick . My daughter says it's awesome.

In honour of the victims of the Quebec City attack, we've chosen two lesbian Muslim authors for February and March: If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan, a young Iranian American author, and A Map of Home by Randa Jarrar, another Arab-American. In April we'll read Michelle Tea's latest, Black Wave . May we'll read Charlotte Wood's  The Natural Way of Things . Some other options we'll likely be adding to our reading list: Emma Donoghue's The Wonder . Zoe Whittall's The Best Kind of People . Stella Duffy's London Lies Beneath . Hi all, IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE! Just this once, our October meeting won't be the last Monday of the month - because the last Monday of the month is Halloween and our members want to be home trick or treating with their kids. So this month's meeting will be Monday October 24, 2016. Don't miss it!!! Last month's meeting was a great discussion of Loving Eleanor . Not big fans of this one - can't recommend it, although it did pique curiosity about Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hikock in general. Remember, October's title is Gabby Rivera's Juliet Takes a Breath . In November, we're reading Thanhha Lai's Listen, Slowly . December we don't meet. January's title is Becoming Nicole by Amy Ellis Nut and February we're reading Nalo Hopkinson's Sister Mine . See you soon!
