Hi friends! After 17-odd years, we’re making a tiny little change to our name. We’ve heard from some in the community that it wasn’t inclusive enough. We mulled over lots of big changes but in the end we’ve settled for subtle. From here on, we’re Edmonton Lesbian+ Book Club. We hope this keeps us in your search engines but also lets our enby and trans friends know this group is open. Just to reiterate WHO WE ARE: We welcome queer women of all ages, genders, ethnicities, religious backgrounds, and socio-economic classes to attend. We also welcome the presence of their families, friends, and community members who get it. We wish to specifically extend a welcoming invite to Indigenous and Black women, disabled women, fat women, trans men and women, bisexual women, non-binary peeps, people of colour, and asexual women. We commit to doing our best to engage with parts of our communities that have been excluded. As such, there will be no identity policing and we trust that each and every one...

Hi all!  We've made a couple of adjustments to our lineup in order to take advantage of some fun events happening around town (or well, really, online...). March is the month we've really changed. On March 29, when we would normally meet, we'll attend the CLC Kreisel Lecture by Vivek Shraya, online at 7 pm. On Wednesday, March 31, there is a CLC Brown Bag lunch online meeting with Cicely Belle Blain! Then that evening we'll meet to chat about her book, Burning Sugar at 7 pm. Kimiko Tobimatsu's book moves to November. For summer, in July we're reading Mean , a memoir by Myriam Gurba and in August it'll be Alice Walker: A Life by Evelyn C. White. That's all for now!

In March, we're reading Julia Serano 's Excluded . In April, we'll try Calling Dr. Laura , a novel by Nicole J. Georges about a young woman finding out some deep family secrets. May it's Corona by Bushra Rehman - a super interesting read about a Pakistani Muslim woman in Queens, NY. June let's read the first of C.B. Lee's Sidekick series, Not Your Sidekick . My daughter says it's awesome.

In honour of the victims of the Quebec City attack, we've chosen two lesbian Muslim authors for February and March: If You Could Be Mine by Sara Farizan, a young Iranian American author, and A Map of Home by Randa Jarrar, another Arab-American. In April we'll read Michelle Tea's latest, Black Wave . May we'll read Charlotte Wood's  The Natural Way of Things . Hi all, IMPORTANT DATE CHANGE! Just this once, our October meeting won't be the last Monday of the month - because the last Monday of the month is Halloween and our members want to be home trick or treating with their kids. So this month's meeting will be Monday October 24, 2016. Don't miss it!!! Last month's meeting was a great discussion of Loving Eleanor . Not big fans of this one - can't recommend it, although it did pique curiosity about Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hikock in general. With all the holidays, no one seems to have the time to make book club happen that month! In January, we'll read Toronto author Farzana Doctor's newest title, All Inclusive . Very excited and hoping to hook up with Farzana to discuss! In February it's Dirty River by Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha. In March we'll read Under the Udala Trees by Chinelo Okparanta. April's title is The Walk-In Closet by Abdi Nazemian. May we'll read Yabo by Alexis De Veaux. And finally in June we are going to read Vancouver's Amber Dawn in her memoir How Poetry Saved My Life.
